But that was a half-century ago, and neither the discovery of the new landscape nor the landscape itself has survived. The elegance of its new architectual forms is now concealed or modified, the open land of the earlier years has been subdivided, and eve n the splendid space of the new highway becomes increasingly congested; uninterrupted flow means more often than not uninterrupted traffic jams.
