- The National Science Foundation (NSF) has recently updated its Guide for Preparation and Submission of NSF Applications via Grants.gov (December 1, 2009).
SUMMARY OF SIGNIFICANT CHANGES include:
Chapter III - Section 6, Next Steps - Post Submission to Grants.gov This section has been updated to reflect the availability of Research.gov to track the status of grant applications to NSF.
Chapter VI - Section 1, NSF Cover Page The NSF Grants.gov Application Cover Page has been updated to include the Grants for Rapid Response Research (RAPID) and EArly-concept Grants for Exploratory Research (EAGER) mechanisms.
Chapter VI - Section 2, NSF Application Checklist The NSF Application Checklist form is no longer a form required to be submitted with each application. Rather it has been converted to a Checklist for use by the organization in conducting an administrative review, prior to electronic submission, to ensure that an application complies with all application preparation instructions, i the format specified. The NSF Application Checklist now appears in Chapter VII.

(1) NIH Makes Significant Application Changes - The new, restructured versions of the paper PHS 398 and electronic SF 424 (R&R) application packages and instructions will be available by December 2009. For due dates on or after January 25, 2010, choose "ADOBE_FORMS-B" for SF 424 (R&R) electronic applications and the "June 2009" revised forms for PHS 398 application submissions. - The new expiration date for FWA00002571 is September 17, 2012. This expiration date should be used immediately in all applications requiring the FWA (federal-wide assurance of compliance with standards for human research protections).
- As of September 21, NIH will begin accepting requests for human embryonic stem cell lines (hESCs) to be approved for use in NIH-funded research.
NIH has opened its website for submission of hESCs for approval and announced membership of the new Working Group for Human Embryonic Stem Cell Eligibility Review.

The Office of Grant and Contract Administration (GCA) provides assistance to faculty and staff in obtaining and managing sponsored awards that support scholarly activities while assuring proper stewardship of those funds. The office is charged with review and approval of proposals sent to all sponsors.
The Office of Grant and Contract Financial Administration (GCFA) works closely with faculty and business office staff to ensure financial compliance and proper accounting of externally sponsored funds. GCFA's responsibilities include financial reporting and closeout, effort reporting, and development of the facilities and administrative cost rate.
