workshop/demonstration of music of Bach, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Schubert, and Mahler

Sunday, November 2 / 8 PM

Sprague Memorial Hall

470 College st., New Haven

Two of Europe’s foremost interpreters of art song and of Bach will present a demonstration/workshop entitled Evening Moods at Sprague Memorial Hall in New Haven at 8 PM on Sunday, November 8.  The demonstration will include songs of Bach, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Schubert, and Mahler, taking the listener on “a musical journey of darkness and dreams.”

Soprano Sibylla Rubens and contralto Ingeborg Danz have both concertized extensively in their native Germany and in the world’s most prestigious concert halls with leading conductors and ensembles such as Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, Helmuth Rilling, Philippe Herreweghe, Herbert Blomstedt; the Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Gewandhaus Orchestra, and La Scala in Milan.  As recitalists they have appeared in renowned concert series and at international festivals with pianists such as Irwin Gage, Helmuth Deutsch, Michael Gees, Justus Zeyen, and Wolfram Rieger. Their numerous recordings have been released on several prestigious labels, including Sony, Teldec, hänssler, and harmonia mundi, among others.

These two exceptional vocalists have traveled and performed together on the concert stage for over 15 years in various venues.  They sing together as if with one voice and one spirit. Tobias Krampen will be at the piano.

The demonstration/workshop, presented by Yale Institute of Sacred Music, is free and open to the public; no tickets are required. For more information call 203-432-5062.
