This conference will highlight recent research on language
change, ethnicity, and policy in multilingual communities of
Africa.

Call for Papers
Papers are invited in all areas relating to Africa, including:

The conference will be held at Luce Hall, 34 Hillhouse Avenue, New Haven,
on the Yale University campus. Registration and reception will be held on
Thursday, March 26, 1998. The conference will conclude at midday on
Sunday, March 29, 1998.
Rooms are being set aside at the Holiday Inn at Yale, 30 Whalley Avenue,

your reservation, please indicate that you are attending ACAL. Conference
rate: $79, plus tax, per room, per night. The deadline for room

Directions to Yale University
By Air: Yale Travel Services offers discounts on US Air and United
Airlines--mention that you are attending ACAL. Tweed-New Haven Airport is
the closest airport to Yale ($10 taxi fare, approx.). Bradley
International Airport is located outside Hartford, one hour from New
Haven. New York Area airports: Kennedy, LaGuardia, and Newark are 2-3
hours from Yale. Connecticut Limo serves all three airports (Bradley,
$20-$25 one-way; New York airports, $35 one-way, approx.), and Red Dot
Shuttle serves Kennedy and LaGuardia, only. Call for reservations.
By Car: From I-95, connect to I-91 North in New Haven; take Exit 3 onto
Trumbull Street. Continue through 3 traffic lights. Turn right onto
Hillhouse Avenue. Luce Hall is located at 34 Hillhouse Avenue.
Parking on campus, $4/day; vouchers will be available at gistration.
From I-91 South, take Exit 3 and follow preceding directions to Luce Hall.
From the Merritt and Wilbur Cross Parkways (Route 15): Take Exit 61, go
south on Whitney Avenue. After approximately five miles, turn right on
Trumbull Street. Take first right onto Hillhouse Avenue. Luce Hall is
located at 34 Hillhouse Avenue.
By Train: Amtrak and Metro North offer frequent service to New Haven's
Union Station. Taxi costs about $6 to Yale.
