Internet Workshops Planned for the Fall

The Yale University Library, in conjunction with the Internet Information Center, will be offering a variety of Internet Workshops this fall. These workshops assume no prior experience with the Internet. The only prerequisite is that you know how to use a computer, a mouse and your e- mail account.

There will be 16 classes throughout October and November in the Electronic Classroom on both Macs and PCs. The Electronic Classroom is the Library's new state-of-the-art computer lab, located on the upper level of the Cross Campus Library.

The following workshops are planned. All sessions will be held from 9:00 a.m-10:30 a.m.

  1. Introduction to the Internet/Configuring your computer - a short history of the Internet, what the Internet is/is not, clients and server, Internet addresses, and various types of connections (modem, SLIP, ARA,Ethernet). Dates: 10/3 (Mac), 10/5 (PC), 10/31 (Mac), 11/1 (PC)
  2. World Wide Web (8 classes) - What is the World Wide Web? Setting up and using Netscape, bookmarks, URLs, search tools, HTML, links, newsgroups, and much more. Dates: 10/10 (Mac), 10/12 (PC), 10/17 (Mac), 10/19 (PC), 11/6 (Mac), 11/8 (PC), 11/13 (Mac), 11/15 (PC)
  3. Advanced Internet Skills(4 classes) - Advanced Netscaping, arranging bookmarks, downloading, capturing images, mail function, introduction to HTML , using FTP to move documents into E- mail accounts. Dates: 10/24 (Mac), 10/26 (PC), 11/27 (Mac), 11/29 (PC)
