About SAS's Political Action
Committee
The political action committee (PAC),
created in the 1999-2000 academic year, encourages
and proliferates education –and consequently,
activism–on current issues affecting South Asians
and South Asian Americans. Its mission is to
increase the awareness of and to promote critical
thought on these issues. It achieves this goal
through sponsoring discussions that focus around
such topics.
Political discussions occur throughout the
semester, and usually take place at SAS's weekly
Wednesday night meetings, so keep track of the
calendar for news about discussions and topics.
The PAC Co-Chairs will also send out weekly e-mails
providing the details of upcoming events and the
status of developing projects.
PAC works with many Yale groups who share an
interest in political issues that relate to South
Asia, South Asians, or South Asian Americans. PAC
also is always on the lookout for more people to
join the committee and help us increase political
awareness in the Yale South Asian community; anyone
with ideas on speakers, events, or political issues
that we should address is also welcome. Think.
Read. Write. Voice yourself and help us.
Organization
PAC is committed to sponsoring speakers and
organizing panels and conferences that work towards
informing the general student body of South Asian
Issues. As part of its purpose, PAC also hopes to
promote the South Asian political identity by
working towards collective action. The Political
Action Committee will be formally organized at its
first meeting (check the SAS
calendar), and will evolve continuously. Anyone
interested in South Asians and their political role,
both in South Asia and America are encouraged and
welcome to add their ideas to ours. Currently, the
SAS Political Action Co-Chairs are:
Kersi Shroff - BR '09
Atisha Kumar - SC '09
